The Queen City has been chosen to be the set for a sultry suspense thriller cable series from Starz this spring.

Malin Åkerman will play the leading role of Margo Banks in “The Hunting Wives,” which will film in Charlotte, according to Variety and other industry reports. Theeight-episode series is from executive producer Rebecca Cutter and Erwin Stoff of 3 Arts Entertainment.

Filming will begin in March, according to TheCinemaholic.

The series is based on May Cobb’s novel published in 2021 by Berkley. “The Hunting Wives” is about Sophie O’Neil and her family moving from the East Coast to east Texas where she falls for socialite Margo Banks’ charms.

”The Hunting Wives” share more than target practice, martinis and bad behavior in this novel of obsession, seduction and murder, according to the book’s own blurb description. In its review, Library Journal called Cobb’s book an “alcohol-infused, sexually charged thriller. Gossipy, scandalous housewives behaving badly might make this the juiciest read of the season.”

“I have been looking for a great TV show to come along and steal my heart ... and boy has this one ever done exactly that! ... Get ready for a crazy ride y’all,” Åkerman said Wednesday on her Instagram page.

Author Cobb called it “the most thrilling casting update” on her Instagram page on Wednesday. “I’m such a huge fan and cannot wait to watch Malin bring Margo to life,” she said.

Location Scouting for LionsGate / Gracie Films production of "Are You There God? It's Me Margaret" by I. Karl Golden

IMG_0585.jpg

I recently joined the Location Scouting team of the upcoming LIONSGATE/ Gracie Films “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret.” The Location Department is currently scouting the City of Charlotte, NC for a variety of settings. The film is set in the 1970’s time period, and we’re looking for homes, schools, a summer camp, old drug stores, etc.

Here’s a CNN story on the project:

‘Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret’ the movie is coming

By Chloe Melas, CNN

Nearly 50 years after Judy Blume authored the popular young adult novel, “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” she’s agreed to let it be made into a movie.

The book, first published in 1970, is about the life of Margaret Simon, an 11-year-old in the sixth grade, living in Farbrook, New Jersey. Margaret forms a secret club with three girls from her neighborhood and that’s where they talk about typical issues that pre-teens face, from anticipating their periods to first bras and boys.

Margaret also explores questions about faith, while growing up in a home with parents who aren’t affiliated with any religion. She talks to God in the story and begins each prayer by saying, “Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret.”

Blume has granted the highly sought after rights to producer James L. Brooks and Kelly Fremon Craig. Brooks and Craig both spoke about the news to Deadline

Craig wrote and directed the 2016 coming of age film, “The Edge Of Seventeen.”

Brooks is known for directing and writing “Terms of Endearment,” “Broadcast News” and “As Good as It Gets.”

Blume will also serve as a producer on the film.

The news comes after Blume took to Twitter in August to say she had decided to allow her books to be turned into movies.

“So which of my books, kids and/or adult would you want to see adapted for series or movie?” Blume tweeted. “I ask because I’m in LA meeting with many talented people. I think the time has come.”

Blume’s 1981 novel, “Tiger Eyes” was made into a film in 2012 and directed by her son, Lawrence Blume. In 1978, Blume’s novel “Forever” was made into a TV movie.

Dear Margaret, you’re up.

"Delilah" Season 1 Wraps Production in Charlotte by I. Karl Golden

“Delilah,” the Warner Horizon Production for the OWN Channel resumed production after a 5 month COVID_19 related hiatus. The Production began filming on October 26, 2020 and wrapped principal photography on January 22, 2021. I had the pleasure to scout locations on the project for 5 days in March 2020 before the pandemic forced production to shut down. Thankfully, that was long enough for me to make a contribution to the project, as I was able to find several recurring locations that will be seen throughout Season 1.

Here’s a Promo:

Filming July 11 - 17, 2020: Hoover ONEPWR Evolve by I. Karl Golden

HooverLogo01.jpg

TTI Floor Care NA is company that manufactures the Hoover line of household floor care machines. Their commercials and online ads are produced in-house and they are always looking for fresh homes to showcase their new line of products. This time they are featuring the Hoover ONEPWR Evolve - Pet Vacuum. Its an upright vacuum that’s lightweight and battery powered, and geared to homes with furry friends. The ONEPWR system allows you to use the same battery in a multitude of Hoover products.

We’ll be scouting for newer homes with a sleek and modern feel. The company usually films one house per day, and in most cases they are in and out in the same day. Its okay if you don’t have wall to wall carpet. Their products work on hard surfaces and carpet, and they will bring their own area rugs for demonstration purposes. They’ll also utilize whatever furniture is on site, and will add other pieces as necessary.

If we film at your home there will be a location agreement, liability insurance and you’ll receive a location fee of $1500 per 10 hour day. Overtime rates apply if the day runs long.

I’ll be knocking on doors and leaving fliers with homes that might suit our needs. I’ll ask if you would allow me to take photos of your home to see if the company would like to consider your home for filming.

A visit or two may be scheduled in advance of the film date so our Director and creative team can experience the space in person. These visits usually last about an hour and will be scheduled at a time convenient to your schedule.

Covid 19 concerns:

I practice safe distancing and will wear a mask while scouting your home, and the production team will follow safe practices while filming. See their COVID19 guidelines below:

Filming June 30 - July 2, 2020: Auto Zone TV Commercial  by I. Karl Golden

AZLogo1.png

We are scouting for residential driveways and garages for an Auto Zone Commercial. The scripts suggest that people get frustrated when they can’t start their cars. Go figure. Enter the “Battery Zone” at your local Auto Zone store. The filming will be mainly exterior in the driveway and the garage, but there may be a camera angle showing our actors leaving from the front or garage entrance to the home. We’ll also be looking for large parking lots and will be filming at an actual Auto Zone Store.

Our film crew will follow the Covid-19 guidelines for film production and will maintain safe distances, wear masks and will use hand sanitizers at every possible instance.

The commercial is being produced by Community Films, and will be directed by Pam Thomas. Here’s a bit about them:

Warner Brothers TV Series: “Delilah” by I. Karl Golden

WBLogo.jpeg

Coming Soon to Charlotte:

A TV Series for Warner Brothers Television had started Pre-Production in March 2020 and has been postponed due to Covid-19. Pre-production is tentatively scheduled to resume in August 2020, and filming is estimated to take place in the Fall. Fingers Crossed!

I am looking for Urban Apartment Homes, Townhomes, Stately Upscale Homes, Government style buildings, Offices, Restaurants, and many more. Stay Tuned!

Hoover Infomercial by I. Karl Golden

I’m currently looking for several homes for a series of Hoover Floor Care commercials and infomercials that will be filmed in January, February and March of 2020.

The Company is called TTI Floor Care, NA, and they manufacture floor cleaning products for Hoover, Oreck and Dirt Devil. They are located in Charlotte, and the project is being produced in-house.

The style of the campaign will be akin to that of a QVC or HSN Infomercial: a “Host” personality introduces the product, demonstrates its features and ease of use, while scenes of user testimonial interviews and “action" (B-Roll) shots are intercut into the program. As many as 10 different homes may be selected for filming.

“B-ROLL” LOCATIONS:

The B-Roll Homes are the locations where we will film the products in action: vacuuming stairs, washing the living room carpet, picking up a variety of spills, stains, etc. The B-Roll Homes are usually filmed in one day. There will be a location contract and liability insurance provided by the Production Company. Compensation is a location fee of $1500 per day. There would be a relatively small film crew of about 10-15 people. All rooms throughout the house may be considered for filming. If you have restrictions on any rooms please let us know. You must be agreeable to allow our decorators to carefully move your furniture around, if necessary. Your furniture may be used in the shot or tucked out of sight. In case of stain removal demonstrations, the crew will bring their own area rugs. They will also make sure to leave your home clean, and in the condition found.

“HOST HOUSE” LOCATIONS:

Homes selected for the Host House will be filmed over the course of 2 days, but will require several days in advance to prepare for filming. In some cases, your home may be needed over the course of a 6 day period, and will be compensated at a higher rate (see below). The filming typically takes place in a large spacious area such as a living room with ample ceiling height. It is absolutely okay to be present while we are filming, but it will need to be quiet on the set, especially while recording sound. If you require a hotel stay or pet day care, the Production will be happy to cover the costs. The film crew will be approximately 20-30 people, most of which will be there on the Pre-light and shoot days. Here’s a possible run down of events and compensation:

Day 1: Tech Scout with Crew ($400) likely to occur 2 weeks before the week of filming.

(Days 2-6 would be consecutive days all in the same week.)

Day 2: Set Dressing and Styling – repositioning existing furniture or styling the space with our own & placing temporary flooring (i.e. carpet or rugs). ($400)

Day 3: Prelight & Table Read ($2500 rate)

Day 4: SHOOT ($2500)

Day 5: SHOOT ($2500)

Day 6: Wrap out day ($400)

Total Potential Compensation: $8,700

INTERESTED?

I’d like to schedule an appointment to photograph your house to show to our director. After viewing the pictures, a visit may be scheduled for the director and his creative team to look at your home with an eye towards how it may be filmed.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
We’d like to consider the entire interior of the house as available until our director comes to see it in person. He will have specific angles in mind. Some scenes may require a trained on-screen animal performer, so it may be a good idea to place your pet in a separate room/garage, etc. If your pet requires a day care situation, our company will pay for it.

After the filming is completed, your house will be returned to the condition found. It is our goal to be invited back, and in some cases we have returned to film the same house several times.

If you’d like to have your home considered for this project or any future ones, please email me at karlgolden@mac.com.
